🤓 : This documentary is a love letter to black women. The film explores our mothers and grandmothers in who they are to us and who they are to themselves . We explore the participants‘ connection to their mothers and grandmothers— whether it be a connection of beauty or pain . This exploration may urge you to re-examine and define your own relationships with your matriarch(s). This movie constantly reminds you that we exist only because they did. It’s humbling to remember that we were only a few choice decisions away from entering into this world. If not for our maternal conduits where would be ? How would we become ?
What I love about this film is the peak into subcultures within blackness, the different expressions and understanding of spirituality and God, the weaving in of black history, and the discussion on finding true rest and self care. Some will watch this film, others will feel it . I felt this film deeper than expected. The lessons were abundant .
