🤓: Glitter Ain’t Gold is such a beautiful film - both in narrative and visuals . Following the journey of a young boy’s search to be seen , “Glitter Ain’t Gold” explores the passion and will of a young heart. What does it take to be seen and who do we wish to see us ? As youth we’ve all hoped to be noticed by that special person. Even as adults, many can admit to the want to be seen by one or many. And sometimes, the fixation on what we think we want makes your miss the beauty right in front of you.
As a viewer, you’ll find yourself immersed and deeply present by the films dream like quality. Though the story seems to span a days (or possibly weeks), it feels like one long, beautiful summer day in Atlanta. The bamboo earrings , lip gloss , spray painted shirts, low riders all felt like a beautiful waking dream.
This short was a stand out for me whether it be the visuals, compelling music , voice over poetry by Nayyirah Waheed, or the actors. Our main characters, Alfred Lewis, and our Stranger Things favorite , @priahferguson deliver precision with facial expression and movement. When they laughed, so did we. When they hurt , we felt it too.
I wish I could have lingered in that world a bit longer. Shoutout to the whole team and I’m hype to see what’s next for the director and the crew .
