🍿: It’s giving .. hell yes !! (... or hell nah,yet I’m still intrigued), off the grid ... but make it fashion , back to basics , earnest , adventure story , feel good, a little bit of the feels , life gems & life hacks film.
🤓 : How can one be free from the systems of the world? And if you find that freedom, can it be sustained? Captain Fantastic is a fictional narrative following a family living off the grid in order to define life in their own terms. The goal is survive , learn deeply, and be prepared for any and all hardships. A major life event in the “real world” test the family’s —specifically the kids— ability to put their knowledge to the test. How do they confront a world they’ve chosen to resist while processing an immense pain they’ve never known? There isn’t one right answer to this question or the many others the film explicitly or implicitly raises. Theses non-answers are what make this film a engaging philosophical exploration of our society.
I’d encourage you to watch and enjoy picking apart the film’s many topics and themes. The film attempts to discuss dense topics, but with two hours it can only do so much . Most moments for debate are ended quickly or stated outright in order to keep the story moving. Other food for thought topics, are beautifully threaded and challenged throughout the film. Alongside the denser topics , the film is sprinkled with enough moments of comedy and simplicity to give space and balance.
😣: There were a a few minor, yet noticeable holes and nonsensical moments in the story that took me out of the world a bit. It was slight, but enough to foster a few, “how did.... you know what... never mind...” reactions.
🎥💡🎵Tech and Specs : The camera work is crisp and doesn’t miss an opportunity to use wide and tight shots intentionally as the characters spaces expand and shrink. The score of the film is really the highlight . Look out for its guiding light as you flow through the narrative.
